Aquaphysical has made me feel happier, stronger and more energetic
— Sue

I was referred to Kerrie Fox at Aquaphysical Hydrotherapy by my orthopedic surgeon following a serious injury, to support my mobility and assist in my rehabilitation. As a practicing psychologist I was aware of the physical and emotional benefits of hydrotherapy for clients coping with chronic medical conditions and acute injuries. Although I discovered first-hand how it helped me cope with the demands of rehabilitation and regain a sense of personal achievement during a time of adjustment.
I found that the weight bearing capacity of water was incredibly freeing after months of immobility. I found I was able to exercise my muscles easily, without pain or fear of causing any damage. The temperature of the pool at a constant 34.5 degrees made each my sessions a pleasurable and relaxing experience. The quality and range of safe equipment including Kerrie’s wonderful water bikes in the pool provided me an opportunity to re-build, and expand mobility and re-build wasted muscles in a gentle way.
Kerrie’s knowledgeable guidance in one to one sessions was given with the utmost attention to my needs. I experienced her as sensitive and compassionate. She introduced graded activities in a timely way which increased my sense of achievement and wellbeing, ensuring I was not being stretched too far too soon, while offering encouragement and support.
I have also witnessed Kerrie working in the pool with other clients with complex special needs, and found her to be professional, supportive and caring in her role. She is also welcoming and supportive towards family and carers. I highly recommend this service to referrers, fellow clients and carers as a valuable resource in helping people regain a sense of mastery and wellbeing. The pool, the equipment and Kerrie’s knowledge and understanding create an atmosphere of holistic wellbeing for all.

Hi Kerrie, I am just dropping you a note to say how grateful I am for your help in providing an individual hydrotherapy programme for me. I feel like I am on the road to being independent again. After two major neurosurgeries within a twelve month period and not being able to get out of my chair and walk without aide, I have come a long way with your help. Being in the pool gives me confidence to do the exercises. The programme you have put together for me has helped immensely and allowed me to continue to improve.   My GP had even noticed the difference in my walking and I was pleased to tell him how this had come about. I have no hesitation in recommending your hydrotherapy to others with similar mobility issues and was glad that it was recommended to me.

Thanks for your guidance and patience.

I would just like to recognise the help Kerrie and Aquaphysical played in the rehabilitation of two compression spinal injuries I sustained - and ultimately was able to participate in a planned camping/walking holiday in the Outback.
Prior to the injuries I attended Gym classes daily - then for four months was unable to do any exercise.  Not only did my fitness deteriorate, but my self confidence plummeted.  Then heard of the Aquaphysical classes, which I attended daily for two months before my planned trip.  Kerrie prescribed a workout tailored to my needs and most importantly a workout on her wonderful waterbike which helped me build muscle. Also in that time I was able to strengthen my back and improve my balance, and get back a large measure of fitness which enabled me to go on a demanding trip.
Kerrie has a great manner and empathy with the participants of her class - and makes it a fun and enjoyable experience for all.

"Two years ago I suffered an injury to my right hip, and subsequently was diagonised with arthritis and osteoporosis in my right hip and lower back. I suffered significant discomfort when walking, and bending for such activities as gardening.
Some months ago, after a particularly painful episode, I began attending Kerrie's hypnotherapy sessions. At first it was all I could do to simply walk carefully the length of the pool a few times, but gradually I was able to include exercises to strengthen my hip and back. I began going to the sessions daily for one week and gradually eased off until now I attend twice a week and do a full range of exercises. Currently my hip is more comfortable than it has been for three years, and I am able to regularly walk two kilometres for daily exercise, something I thought I would never be able to do again with any degree of comfort. I intend to continue with the sessions to maintain the level of mobility I now have.
I am absolutely convinced that Kerrie's hydrotherapy sessions have been instrumental in getting my hip mobile again, and I am extremely grateful for her expertise and the warmth and suppport she gives to all her clients. I am also impressed at the rapport she has with the physiotherapy students who are supported in their studies by her sessions."

Yours sincerely,

"Thank you Kerrie for a fun class, we are feeling much more balanced and fit. Your smiling face and great enthusiasm makes each session something to look forward to."

"Dear Kerrie, Although I get my Seniors card next birthday I have the heart, spirit, mind and get up and go of people in their 30s. Sadly my body wasn't co-operating and was behaving as a 90 year old. I do have medical conditions which caused this, but so what, I want to be mobile again. My physiotherapist gave me treatments which barely improved things a little for just a day. But the next day my joints would pain me, I would be dragging myself about; I was tired from the effort and for not having slept through the night for years because of the pain. Then I had hydrotherapy with you, and the effect has been wonderful. The warm water eases my joints so that I can move them, it improves with every session. I move better, sleep better, feel better. Thank you so very much. I have no hesitation in recommending you to everyone who wants mobility for the joy of liberty and well-being".

"Hi Kerrie, Would just like to thank you for all your care and consideration shown toward us at your Hydrotherapy classes. It makes going a focused event that can be done with humour and friendship. I really look forward to my twice weekly classes which are proving to be most beneficial to my ailments."

Thanks again,

"I heard about Aquaphysical from my cousin who works for a local physiotherapist. I was injured in Spain in June when I fell in the street, fracturing my pelvis in two places. On return to New Zealand my mobility was very limited and I was in a great deal of pain. I had been scheduled to have a total left hip replacement for severe osteoarthritis in July 2012. When I consulted my surgeon, he doubted whether he would be able to operate within 6-12 months for fear of further compromising the fracture sites. He recommended water based therapy rather than land based as a means of getting back some fitness and mobility. When I first saw Kerrie I was using two crutches with limited weight bearing on my injured side. After a few weeks of one on one therapy twice weekly with Kerrie I returned to my surgeon for a check up and new X-rays. I was most surprised and pleased when he said the fractures were sufficiently healed for him to consider operating sooner. I am now three weeks post operative and credit Kerrie and her Aquaphysical regime for enabling me to have my hip replacement and for getting me back on my feet so much sooner than was originally thought possible. Exercising in a warm pool means that there is no strain on the joints and I was very soon able to discard the crutches and get back to walking normally again. Many thanks Kerrie for all your encouragement and support. I will be back at the pool as soon as I am cleared by my surgeon."

"I had a full right knee replacement in April 2012. For various reasons I had real difficulty in bending my knee to 90 degrees despite having twice weekly physiotherapy to assist me. I was quite desperate, quite depressed and had the threat of returning to theatre for a manipulation under anesthetic in front of me. At 6 weeks post surgery I suggested to my surgeon the possibility of Hydrotherapy to assist me in bending my knee. From this point my life changed for the better. For the next 4 weeks I attended sessions 4 times weekly reducing gradually to twice weekly and now once a week. My flexion and strength in the knee has improved markedly and continues to do so. At 4 months post surgery I can now bend my knee to over 100 deg. run again, no walking stick in sight, and unless I mention it to someone they wouldn't know I had a knee replacement a few months ago. I want to express my thanks to Kerrie Fox and the physiotherapy students who have gently assisted and encouraged my recovery. I recommend Hydrotherapy to anyone who is interested and my G.P has been delighted at the positive change in my thinking."

"I have been taking part in Aquaphysical for about six weeks. I recently visited my surgeon, he was most impressed with my recovery from surgery and asked what I had been doing. I told him about AAquaphysical and that I do it twice a week, and he said, "keep doing it, I haven't seen you so well in a long time".

Thanks Kerrie,

James

"I am a Vietnam War veteran suffering from a number of disabilities, not the least of which being Osteoarthritis throughout my body. I am on a medication regime, for pain relief including slow release Morphine patches, prescribed by a Pain Specialist, and I also attend twice weekly, half hour appointments with an Osteopath. Notwithstanding all of the above, I still suffer from chronic musculoskeletal pain.
Acting on the recommendation of my GP, I started one on one, hour long sessions of Hydrotherapy, with Kerrie Fox, Hydrotherapy by Aquaphysical at the AUT Hydrotherapy Pool. These have proved most efficacious by improving joint flexibility and muscular strength. Since I have been attending Kerrie's sessiosn, I have certainly increased body flexibility, balance and strength.
I heartily recommend this to anyone suffering from similar problems".

"I am so thrilled with the results I have achieved in such a short time. My family are most impressed. The classes are fun and I like the personal one on one attention I receive".

"I just want to acknowledge how valuable hydrotherapy is for those of us with arthritis type problems and for people recovering from accidents, surgery or a disability. Kerrie Fox is extremely dedicated to the work she does and her enthusiasm, knowledge and skills are invaluable in aiding patients' recovery. For the physiotherapy students in their final year of training, it provides a really useful training resource plus their knowledge is hugely valuable for the clients. I, along with many others, am hugely appreciative of this valuable resource that the AUT campus provides".

"Kerrie Fox has been part of my team of physiotherapists at AUT Akoranga Drive for the past year and has had the difficult assignment to assist in the treatment of my rare ailment of Motor Neurone Disease, that has been caused by Sports Trauma, a newly discovered adjunct of this disease. Kerrie runs the adjacent Hydrotherapy programne (twice weekly for me) that has enabled me to arrest the decline and improve my overall condition. Tests lately indicated an improvement in many forms of mobility due to the planning and execution of this. Her input has made the course interesting and demanding to achieve the agreed objectives that were set on day one. Kerrie's Hydrotherapy classes encompass a good mix of people with Muscular, neurological disabilities as well as people recovering from operations as well as sports injuries. Kerrie is adept at analyzing the problems and explains the benefits and reasons for every exercise she conducts with many varied cases of disabilities of the attendees. I wish this facility, especially sports recovery, was available when I was fully active in sport having endured 40 plus years of rugby, long distance running as well as snow activities. Kerrie is a very courteous, polite and diligent person with a ready smile and abundant personality. Therefore, I could not but recommend Kerrie and her cost-effective Aquaphysical' courses highly to any person with a disability or just wanting to improve overall fitness as the attributes I have mentioned above, would ensure any recommendation would not end in disappointment".
